8770w DreamColor

Hello,

I'm new on this forum. I discovered it because I'm searching information about updating my 8770w (non-dreamcolor) with a Dreamcolor display LP173WF3 SLB2.

As I understand I can't only substitute the display?

But what are the missing parts?
- Decode board
- Specific cables
- ???

If I got the decode board and specific cable do they fit together in a non-dreamcolor diplay case/bezel etc... ?

Is it all I need?

1, 8770w's DC panel

1. On the link that you gave me I see that 8770w comes with LP173WF3 SLB3 and SLB4, does this mean that SLB2 is incompatible with 8770w?

2. If you say that DC cables for 8770w are not the same as 8760w, does this mean that 8760w cables are incompatible with 8770w?

Google translator is a good friend. :-)
1, LP173WF3 SLB3 and SLB4 is used on 8770w officially, although I personally think SLB2 is still OK technically.

2, 8760w is equiped with 'Ambient Light Sensor' but 8770w is not, so the cable is different. But you may mod and use it on 8770w if you have a 8760w cable.

2. I read twice the translation of the page that you pasted but I didn't get to a clear conclusion, the translation is very (very) bad either in english, french or spanish...

So in conclusion, YES it's possible to mod and use the 8760w cable on my 8770w.

But where could I find a tutorial to understand how to mod the cable?

I here simply quote the image of 8760w/8770w DC cable comparison. (image is not available in translator mode browsing.)


Above one is for 8760w, below one is for 8770w.

You may see that PIN #18 (ALS signal)is not connected on 8770w, so it should be applicable to mod it by removing/pluging out pin 18 from the connector.

Checking all the topic that you gave me, in conclusion I can update to a DreamColor screen with:

1. SLB2 or ide0ally SLB3 and SLB4 panel
2. Decode board (same 8770w or 8760w)
3. Tweaked 8760w cable, as I never see any 8770w on sold.

I see that "philips478" sell decode board and cables on ugomark

I made an account but as I understand that he also is a hpfocus user, does somebody has his direct contact? I would like to buy the decode board and maybe group the order with a panel if possible.

Thx in advance and I'm really happy to see that there is a possibility to update to DreamColor without paying so much money as HP ask... I'm a student in graphic design and maybe my hardware-geek background will help me :-)

I sent a PM to philips478 5 days ago and didn't get any answer. After checking my message box I can see that the message is in my "outbox" and not in "sent messages". Is it normal? I checked well but it seems that I sent the message and in the outbox there is no button to send the message. I understand that my message was sent but I dont really catch the difference between the "outbox" and "sent message"?

Anyway, without any news from philips478, does somebody else could help me to get the hardware?
