With the new v4.01 firmware for VC, as you know one of the key features that was introduced with the latest rev is “Bandwidth Optimization”.

I would like to know what is the best way to test and validate that a vNIC can exceed the allocated bandwidth that has been assigned?

Linux: iPerf or NetPerf, if you don’t get the performance you are looking for make sure Multithreading in the tool was not turned off.

Windows: NTTTCP, similarly there is a CLI switch to spin up X number of threads. 4-8 worked best for me.

Keep in mind that the new option allows transmitting OUT from the blade at higher than the VMNIC Min setting.
It has always allowed receiving data IN to the blade at higher than the VMNIC setting.

And also remember that with 4.01 and the new setting, your FlexNICs will show the MAX value to the OS as the pipe size. The NIC Speed in the OS will not dynamically change back and forth as bursting is occurring.
