Guide to using external LCD Monitors with 2010 HP Business Notebooks
for 8540w/8740w/2540p, etc.
1. The EliteBook 2540p, 8440p/w, 8540p/w (with NVIDIA graphics), 8740p/w (with NVIDIA graphics), ProBook 644Xb/645Xb/654Xb/655Xb can output to a maximum of two displays in clone or extended mode via the built-in VGA and DisplayPort (DP) or via the VGA, DVI, and DP on the applicable docking station. ie. The notebook screen is counted as one display so if it is used, only one external display can be used. If the notebook screen is not used, two external displays can be used.
2. The EliteBook 2740p can output to a maximum of two displays in clone or extended mode via the VGA and DP ports on the Ultra-Slim Expansion Base (WA995AA). ie. The notebook screen is counted as one display so if it is used, only one external display can be used. If the notebook screen is not used, two external displays can be used.
3. As some monitors (mentioned on Page 6) do not have a DP connector or the ones that do, do not ship with a DP cable (except for the LP2475w, LP2480zx and ZR30w), please make sure to include one of the DisplayPort adapters in Appendix A depending on the monitor’s Connector type and Cable/s included.
4. If more than two external displays are required, the HP USB Graphics Adapter (NL571AA) can be used for each (up to six) additional external display. Please note that note that the experience in this scenario can be varied, and does not match that of a docking station (auto adjust, discovery, etc).
NL571AA specs are as follows.
Video interface: VGA or DVI-I
Supported resolutions: Up to 1920 x 1080 (16x9 widescreen), 1680 x 1050 (16x10 widescreen) or 1600 x 1200 (traditional). Please check and validate usage experience before adopting this solution.
5. The DVI-D port on the HP 230W Docking Station (VB043AA) or HP 230W Advanced Docking Station (NZ223AA) is a single link DVI-D port even though it looks like a dual link DVI-D port. As such, it will only support resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 at reduced blanking. In order to use the 30” LP3065 or the ZR30w monitor, one needs to use the HP DisplayPort to Dual Link DVI-D Adapter (NR078AA) via the DP on the notebook (if there is one) or on the docking station.
