HP Software Defined Network announcement – Cisco vCider acquisition
Software Defined Networks (SDN) is the next big addition to cloud after server and storage virtualization.
It allows the network to be adapted automatically to the needs of a workload.
HP announced last week advances in SDN with integrated infrastructure, controller and applications solutions.
The big difference between Cisco and HP is that HP is basing their strategy on OpenFlow, an opensource standard, while Cisco is working with its own Cisco OnePK API’s which are a central part of their CiscoONE strategy (see article by NetworkComputing).
Cisco just announced the acquisition of vCider to complement its CiscoONE portfolio.
